About Us

The Schenectady Theater for Children, Inc. (STC) is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization of adult & childre volunteers dedicated to bringing live theater to local children during their school day. The cast and supporting technical crew include volunteers from all over the Capital Region, who are committed to our mission to inspire youth to get involved in the arts.

HISTORY

The Schenectady Theater for Children was formed in 1967 and became independently incorporated in 1976. From eight performances in that first year, it has since grown to include the Great Minds Series and Winter, Spring and Summer Camps and a Family Theater Troup!

From the beginning, the goal of STC has been to bring theater to kids at little or no cost to children and their parents.

To accomplish this, the acting and technical work is done solely by volunteers. Funding to cover the cost of transportation, costumes, scenery, makeup, props, royalties and director/producer stipends is provided in part by grants, donations, parent-teacher organizations, and by tax-deductible memberships.

STC draws on the talents of the local community not only for financial support, but also for actors, crew members, original costume and set designs, original music and scripts.
